Popular Indo-Chinese recipe, Honey Chili Potatoes, owes it flavor to honey and fiery red chilies. I like the deep fried restaurant version but I prefer the healthy home made method where the potatoes are baked before being tossed in a sweet and hot sauce and sprinkled with toasted sesame seeds. Very flavorful and looks appealing in the serving plate.
Sesame Honey Chilli Potatoes Recipe
Prep & Cooking: 30 mts
Serves: 4-5 persons

Ingredients:3 potatoes, peeled and cut into fingers like for french fries
2 crushed garlic cloves
1 tsp red chilli pwd
2 tsps tomato sauce
salt to taste
1 1/2 tbsps oil
For sauce:
1 tbsp tomato sauce
1 tsp red chilli sauce
2 tsps vinegar
2 crushed garlic cloves
1 1/2 tbsps honey
1 tsp chopped coriander leaves (optional) or spring onion greens
1/2 tbsp oil
1 Combine potato fingers, oil, red chilli pwd, tomato sauce, crushed garlic and salt and place in a ziplock bag and shake well. Grease a baking tray and spread the potato fingers on the tray and bake at 200 degrees C for 35-40 mts. You need to turn the potato fingers once during the baking process. OR you can deep fry the potato fingers to a golden brown shade. If deep frying add a tbsp of cornflour instead of oil to the potatoes and then deep fry. Remove onto absorbent paper and keep aside.
2 Heat a heavy bottomed vessel, add oil, add the crushed garlic and saute on high flame for few secs. Add the red chilli paste, tomato sauce and vinegar and combine. Add the baked potatoes and toss for a mt on medium-high flame. Add the honey and toss the contents till well combined. Turn off heat. Adjust salt if required.
3 Sprinkle toasted sesame seeds and garnish with spring onion greens or coriander leaves and combine. Serve warm as a starter/appetizer.

Try this sweet and simple side dish, which is elegant enough for a Thanksgiving party but also humble enough for a weeknight meal.

Annie made this dish for Thanksgiving last year, but we’ve only gotten around to posting it now.  They were tuber-rific! I think we scarfed these down even before the turkey came out!  My mom, who was visiting us in San Jose then, asked Annie for the recipe so that she could make it for the family Christmas party back home in Honolulu.

My mom doesn’t like overly complicated recipes. This recipe for Ubi Madu Stick
, couldn’t be simpler!  Cut 5 yams into wedges, then rinse them and pat dry. Toss them with 1/4 cup of olive oil and a teaspoon of salt.

Arrange them in a single layer on a baking sheet. Bake at 400*F for an hour.  At the last 15 minutes, brush with honey. Serve, garnished with chopped parsley. So easy, even I could do it!

By the way, even though I (and many Americans) call these tubers “yams”, they are really dark sweet potatoes. True yams come from the tropics, and are generally sweeter than sweet potatoes.  Now you know.

1/4 lb butter, softened
1 1/2 teaspoons honey
1/2 teaspoon fresh mint
4 medium sweet potatoes

Directions:

For the butter:

Cream butter, then beat in honey and mint. Season with salt, and 1/8 teaspoon pepper; set aside. Scrub potatoes.

Adjust oven rack to middle position and heat oven to 450ºF. Bake sweet potatoes until tender, about 1 hour.

Cut potatoes open and fill each with a dollop of butter.

Recipe: Honey Butter Topped Sweet Potato

I love sweet things and usually this transfers to a serious need to eat some sort of dessert at the end of every night, but sometimes I can get a little bit of sweetness into dinner, without having to indulge afterwards. Once of my favorite ways to do this is to add a sweet side to accompany the main course and so, I give you one of my favorites, Honey Butter Topped Sweet Potato.
This is seriously delicious and only marginally as unhealthy as it may seem. In order to make this, first gather your ingredients together.


light butter (or you can use the real stuff)
honey
cinnamon
First, add a few teaspoons of butter to a small dish.

Then, drizzle honey over the top.


Mix together and scoop as desired onto your sweet potato.


Add a sprinkle of cinnamon to the top and voila! - honey butter topped sweet potato ready to eat!
